Wapping Pirates and Pubs by appointment (Groups of 8 or more only.)

Starting at the Tower of London with the story of Captain Blood who stole the crown jewels, we will explore the facinating area of Wapping. An area that over the ages has been the haunt of smugglers, pirates, captains and people fleeing from the authorities.

Along the way we will visit three Wapping pubs,all with their own unique individual character. The first Dickens Inn used to be a beer brewery, the Town of Ramsgate a pub so named because fishing ships would arrive from Ramsgate with their fresh catch. A pub where the notorious Judge Jeffrys, the Hanging Judge; was caught trying to escape after the Monmouth Rebellion as William of Orange was arriving here.

The Captain Kidd named after one of the most notorious pirates of the who was originally a member of the British navy. Hear the story of his downfall and subsequent execution in 1701. Hear about the many other pirates who were swung here then placed in a gibbet to warn others against piracy!

We will also see Jacobs Island where in Oliver Twist, Bill Sykes fled after the murder of Nancy and met his gruesome fate!
